What will our time together look like?
Unlike a traditional residency, where artists are granted uninterrupted space to make work, our space will be designed to provide built-in nourishment and support for your creative journey. Oftentimes, our creative journeys are a highly individual pursuit, a solo experience. Our work is to heal the inner artist, relationally, in community, so that we can unfold as the creative humans we are.
We will use the first weeks of our time together to engage in intention-setting practices around how you want to use this journey. We will call upon creative processes to inquire within about what each of us is being asked to explore as a creative focus during this time, both in terms of theme, and modality. We will only encourage a “finished piece” or “completed project” if that is a personal intention of yours.
Collectively, we will be offering InterPlay, authentic movement, narrative therapy, & expressive art practices, to help you hone in on what’s alive for you right now. We will explore the places where we commonly get blocked, as well as identify and build on our strengths, and the types of processes that work for us. We will engage in processes that will aid in opening up your creative energy, and move into generative work time from there. We know there is a lot of screen-burnout right now, so each session will have screen-optional time, and time to create away from the computer!
Each live, 2.5 hour session will include workshopping and open creation time, as well as opportunities to share revelations, works in progress, and to receive resonance from the group. At the end of our nine week journey, we’ll celebrate our work (or work in progress, or process-share!) alongside other participating artists as part of our public virtual showcase!
Is this for an artist like…
me??
Under capitalism, there are endless ways that we trick ourselves into thinking we are creatively illegitimate - some of us may feel this impulse to draw, to write, to learn how to play that instrument, but we struggle to just...do it. Some of us yearn and desire to start creating, but work, responsibilities, and family commitments have made it difficult to dedicate time to that creative calling pumping in our hearts. Others of us may creatively produce a lot, but our process may feel robotic, or out of sync with our intuition and inner rhythms. Still others of us may depend on grants or awards to validate that voice inside that still persists whenever there is a lull in opportunity: “but I’m not a *real* artist.” These are just some of the ways that living under capitalist & colonial ideas of “art” have actually taken the medicine of art away from people.
We welcome people with all levels of creative experience; whether you are at the beginning stages of your artistry, or you’ve been a practicing artist for decades. The journey is relational, and we have had artists of all levels of experience support one another beautifully. So—yes, if your creative bones are rattling for attention, this is for you!
Cost & Schedule
Our next 9 week virtual journey will be from April 7th - June 2nd, 2024. We meet on Sundays for 2.5 hours on Zoom, at 10 am PT / 12 pm CT / 1 pm ET.
The Stingray Artist Journey is offered at the following sliding scale:
Option 1: $450 - $575
Option 2: $575 - $700
Option 3: $700 - $850
Before you determine how much to pay, we ask you to consider how capitalism trains us to ‘look for the best deal’, and can pull us into a spirit of scarcity versus generosity, mutual care and support. We are trusting in the distribution of payment, and are hopeful that those of you who are able to pay the higher end of the scale will do so, allowing for more participants who need to pay at the lower end of the scale. Finally, we believe you have the best understanding of your financial situation and trust your judgement.
For more guidance on how to determine what payment makes sense for you, below is the green bottle sliding scale guide.
*NOTE: if you feel really called called to join us and money is a barrier, please reach out to us. We will see if we can find a way to make it work.
